Jubilant Philadelphia Flyers fans Scott Lederer and Bryan Young cheer on their beloved team Saturday night at Fox & Hound in King of Prussia. The Flyers beat the Montreal Canadiens 6-4 Saturday to wrap up the Eastern Conference semifinals, 4-1. With the win, the Flyers advanced to the Eastern Conference final against their cross-state rival, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Games 1 and 2 will be played in Pittsburgh Friday and Sunday before the best-of-seven series moves to the Wachovia Center for games on May 13 and 15.

Members of the Notre Dame Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Bridgeport recently donated over 800 lbs. of food to the Patrician Society of Central Norristown’s emergency food cupboard. Accused killer Joseph V. Giongo is not mentally competent right now to stand trial for the beating death of his wife last December, according to a Montgomery County judge.

Judge Kent H. Albright, presiding in a half-hour competency hearing, Monday directed that Giongo, 44, of the 100 block of West Avenue, be transferred from the county prison to a secure building at the Norristown State Hospital to undergo treatment for his mental illness.
